No Fix, No Pay iPhone Repair Auckland

One thing you definitely appreciate about a new smartphone is the design. The feel, the look, it’s practically beautiful; you want to keep it looking brand new as long as possible.

Some of us tend to get a bit bold, “we got this”, “we’re not going to drop the phone”, yadda… yadda… yadda.

But if you are like me accidents happened, rather it is a small nick on the corner of the casing, water damaged or the screen completely smashed, you wish had purchased that insurance to cover the repair of your smartphone.

Let me tell you a story.

I was going to the gas station and had my phone in my lap. When I hopped out my vehicle I completely forgot where my phone was until I heard it hit the concrete. Ever seen a grown man cry? It’s OK, you are not alone, the phone fell face first towards the concrete and all I can do was stand there, literally stuck while a thousand thoughts ran thru my head.

Why didn’t I put the phone in the passenger seat like I usually do? As I cursed myself I said a silent prayer, hoping the screen didn’t crack and picked up the phone.

CRACKED!!

It’s always something. I can’t even look at my phone the same. Before when I was at my desk I would have my phone with the screen facing me so I can see who’s calling and follow up on my notifications. Now it just sits in the corner, face down and I listen out for the ring.

I’m scared to do too many interactions with it because when I slide my finger across the screen it feels like i’m about to get cut.

Knowing I did not have had any insurance for the phone I decided to call my mobile phone provider with a smidgen of hope that the sales rep added insurance to my plan anyway since I was a new customer.

So I called and explained my situation and asked what would be my deductible for the replacement.

Representative: “Hold on while I check into that”

The replacement price was perfect, thought I was home free until she said I don’t see that the mobile phone replacement program has been added to your account.

Wow!

I’m going to have to face the music. It’s either I go buy a new phone or get the screen replaced. The problem here is that I don’t have enough money for a new iPhone and mobile screen replacements can be a bit dodgy from what I here. You get your phone back and lose functionality or sensitivity.

While scrolling the web for iPhone repair Auckland I came across an Ad for Hitech Mobiles that said: “If we can’t fix it you don’t pay”. (Valid till March 31st)

I took a chance with Hitech, but i’m glad I did. The repair took around 25 min and the tech made it look so easy I felt like I could’ve done it.

But for the important stuff, my phone works a 100% and I think the call quality has actually gotten better because before I would have to almost yell for people to hear me clearly but now I can just speak in my regular tone.

Are You An Android Owner?

Are you an Android Owner?

The divide between the Android and Apple users is slimming but there are still distinctions between the two that each one could do to better their systems.

Battery Life

Let’s face it, no androids battery life holds up to what the device itself is supposed to be capable of. The problem isn’t with the hardware. Google has made the efforts to optimize how the android system hits the battery but there’s been no progress.

Bluetooth Connectivity

So, yes, everything now is Bluetooth capable, but it’s known on android to be, not so reliable. While on Apple devices Bluetooth capable devices just show up on the status bar android requires you to go to the settings screen.

Device Setup

Google has also put in some effort to increase efficiency on how the apps install. For full device setup though it is a pain to get everything onto your device.

Bloatware

This is an android problem that is fed by the device makers themselves. Even after having a Galaxy for months I’m sure that you will still have more “Samsung” and Google apps on there that you don’t use than apps you use every day.

Update Times

It takes forever for Android to put out updates and then for each device manufacturer to decide to give the update the go ahead. By the time you get an update that makes a difference, there’s a new full version out.

Design and Appeal

Apple has achieved a level of functionality that requires physically less code to operate and look nice doing it. Many of androids apps do look nice however most of them don’t. Many of their apps don’t run as smoothly and are setup in less than efficient manners to achieve a better look. Android would greatly benefit from some upscaling in this aspect.

Device Wide Search Function

Have you ever tried to find a file you downloaded? It is impossible. Literally, is it in files? Is it in Folders? Will I have to open Google Docs and open in Downloads and then sort by most recent to find it? What if it’s not an editable file then Google is no help. A device-wide search should be expected, but android users apparently haven’t expressed this need enough to get attention.

Interconnectivity

Moving from one Android based device and trying to use Google services on other products is a struggle. The docs aren’t always updated, Sheets are hard to get to, and the only thing that works really seamlessly is Gmail. Which Android counters with issues in the email department, each device having its separate email option and Gmail being available on every android device?

Fast Charging is still not Lightning

Yes, there are chargers available now that charge devices faster. This isn’t a standard for Androids yet and it’s hard to carry on from device to device. There is a lot that lightening offers to Apple devices that just doesn’t have a comparison in Android, but the big one is charging times.

Support

Have you ever tried to get support on an android? Let me tell you, you will be referred to call: HTC, Samsung and Sony. And receive virtually no help either way.

android vs apple

Android vs. iPhone, which do you think is better?

If you want to purchase a new phone nowadays, you always have to face a dilemma. There are 2 main platforms to choose from so you can either go for Android or iOS. If you opt for Android, you can choose from a wide variety of models and manufacturers whereas on the iOS side things are a lot simpler with just a few annual releases at your disposal. But which platform is the best?

Android

There are many reasons why I consider Android to be very good as a mobile OS platform. The main benefit you get from Android is that you have more choice, more models and multiple manufacturers that use the same operating system. Then you have Micro SD card support, something that you can’t find for iOS devices. Then there’s the fact that you can clear data and cache a lot easier to get your space back whereas iOS makes this process a lot more cumbersome.

But the decisive thing for many users is the great customizability offered by Android. I like that this platform gives a plethora of customization options and the Settings panel offers more choice for the user. Another great thing in regards to Android at least for me is the fact that you get to choose what apps to use when you open a file. You don’t get such choices with iOS which is a shame.

Moreover, Android delivers split-screen multitasking features whereas iOS does not offer such a thing. They also let you use multiple stores so you can install something other than Google Play and still acquire the apps you want.

iOS

Yes, Android is a very good operating system but there are some great upsides on the iOS side as well. What I consider to be a standout thing for Apple is that most of the important apps appear here first. If you are like me and want to try out the new stuff first, then iOS should be the platform of choice.

On top of that, iOS apps are better looking and the operating system as a whole performs better on the Apple devices when compared to Android OS on the Android devices. The reason is simple, Apple can optimize their OS since there are less devices using it whereas Google has a very hard time offering good optimization for hundreds of phone types.

Another benefit that comes from using iOS is that you don’t have carrier and manufacturer-bundled apps. These can be hard to delete on Android but on iOS you don’t have to deal with that. They still have preinstalled apps, but for some reason they are not as bad as you might expect.

Apple Care is offering great support and you can easily get a phone replacement or display issue repaired in no time. Plus, their lighting port is faster than micro USB and it does make charging better as well. On top of that, ease of use is better for iOS and the OS as a whole is designed with a better user experience in mind.

So, iOS or Android?

There is no clear winner in this battle because each person has a different set of demands from a phone. People that have a smaller budget and want a good phone with nice features but which doesn’t look too flashy or with a very high standard design will opt for Android. If you have a budget over $500 and you don’t mind paying more for accessories, then iOS can be a great choice. Plus, the user experience here is better, the visuals are enhanced and the operating system is more optimized. It’s up to you to choose what you like the most, I for one enjoy both platforms equally. I opted for an Android phone and an iPad just so I could be a part of both worlds! What are you thinking about buying?

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge Launched

Samsung has finally revealed its much awaited Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge handsets. The revamped smartphone was revealed at the company’s Unpacked Event ahead of this week’s 2016 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and critics have begun to pour over the specifications.

So what’s Samsung’s new flagship smartphone range like?

Design

The two handsets undeniably share many design cues not just with each other, but with the outgoing Galaxy S6 models. There are one or two changes though.

The biggest difference is seen on the S7 Edge. While the standard S7 remains a 5.1-inch handset, the S7 jumps up in size to 5.5ins. With that comes the biggest change in terms of overall design, too. The sharper, flat back is gone and is instead rounded off to meet the curved edges of the screen.

At the back, the camera module has gone on a diet to make it protrude less – the new models jut out just 0.46mm, meaning they sit more or less flush. Samsung has also worked on the overall exterior packaging and manufacturing standards of the phone, now being IP68 waterproof standard.

Display

The Galaxy S6’s display won praise, so Samsung has a reputation to trade on. Both the S7 handsets have Super AMOLED Quad HD screens with resolutions of 2560×1440 pixels, but the smaller phone has a pixel density of 577 compared to the 534 of the larger Edge model. There’s “no reason to suspect that the quality is going to be anything other than brilliant”.

One striking new feature is that the display is always on – even when the phone is off. Notifications, date, time and a personalised screen will always be shown, while using minimal power.

Hardware

Both phones will use an identical processor, but with two different specifications.

Samsung claims the S7 processor is “30 per cent faster” than the one used last year, with the CPU up to 64 per cent quicker. Both phones have 4GB RAM while from launch, models will be available with 32GB and 64GB storage, though Samsung has confirmed that expandable storage is also an option on the new S7 phones. Micro SD cards up to 200GB in size can be used. The SIM card slot has two housings – one for the Nano SIM, the other for an SD card.

Owing to the fact the phones are different sizes, the batteries have grown and changed slightly. The standard S7 is fitted with a 3,000mAh battery, the larger S7 a 3,600 one. Both can be fast charged and wired or wireless charging is available.

Software

As suspected, the S7s will run Android Marshmallow 6.0, although Samsung has introduced a few new built-in apps and features, too.

Among them is Game Launcher, a dedicated hub for mobile gamers where they will be able to launch games and customise settings. Samsung has also incorporated the camera into the gaming experience so users can record their screens or themselves while playing.

On the S7 Edge, a new sidebar scrolling function allows for easier access to news, apps, contacts and messages. It was rumoured that the S7 could get 3D touch like features, but instead Samsung has introduced additional swiping features. Samsung Pay – the company’s rival to Apple Pay – is also coming to the UK with the S7.

Camera

It’s not just the way the camera fits into the chassis of the phone that has changed, there are big hardware revisions to the S7’s snapper.

Rumours that the phone could actually ship using a camera with less megapixels than the Galaxy S6 have turned out to be true. The S7 uses a 12 megapixel camera over the 16  used on its predecessor, but the actual sensor is mated to revisited and improved hardware and Samsung say they’ve improved the camera’s overall performance, particularly in low light. An aperture of f/1.7 combined with larger pixels means the camera will allow in 95 per cent more light for better results. The front-facing camera is still five megapixels, but also gets the f/1.7 aperture for improved performance.

Latest Apple iphone 6S and 6S Plus . Pre-order Now

Apple launched two new iPhones, the 6s and 6s Plus, which have the same screen sizes as last year’s 6 and 6 Plus, at 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches respectively.
A new aluminium body means they are slightly thicker than 2014’s iPhones, but apart from that they look largely similar, although they do come in a new “rose gold” colour.

What’s under the hood is more interesting. New “3D Touch” technology lets you apply different levels of pressure to the iPhone’s touchscreen to provide different options, for example accessing a sub-menu or “peeking” at a photo or web page.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is here

Samsung’s Note line of phones has always been about three things: a huge screen, outsized performance, and a stylus. But now, with the Galaxy Note 5, two of those three things aren’t so special anymore. Every Android phone is big now, and almost all of those big phones are fast and powerful. And more than any of them, Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus has been eroding Samsung’s claim to phablet dominance. The rest of the world caught up with the Galaxy Note.

Fighting all of that was always going to be an uphill struggle, so something had to change. To its credit, Samsung did just that. The new Note is different: it’s a beautifully designed object that feels like it belongs to the same family as the other Galaxy phones. If you can’t beat ’em with power and size, try to beat ’em with design.

Oh, and don’t forget that stylus.
